Biographical history
John Sidebottom was born on 8th February 1940 in Mellor, near Stockport, Greater Manchester. He began his career as an engineer, before moving to Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire in 1968 to work as a lodge keeper/sluice keeper at the reservoir. In 1989 he moved to Scotland where he spent the rest of his professional life as a forestry worker, where he kept meticulous records of the weather every day until his retirement in 2021. He passed away on 7th September 2022.
